VIDEO: ‘Drawn to Life’ Celebrates Original Music
With its premiere only three days away, “Drawn to Life” cast continues to ready the incredibly unique new show, which marks the first time that the Walt Disney Company and Cirque du Soleil joined forces in creating a theatrical experience. Yesterday, Disney Parks shared a new behind-the-scenes look at the music that brings the show’s narrative to life.
“Drawn to Life is a very unqiue creation, a marriage of Cirque du Soleil and Disney. We have an original score with little sprinkles of Disney themes throughout that take us on a nostalgic trip and bring us back to our childhood and the magic that we have all grown up with,” said Tom Lipps, band director of the new show in the video’s opening.
Tasked with creating the incredible score, Canadian composer Benoît Jutras relied on themes characteristc to Cirque shows of the past while integrating more cinematic Disney elements. Previously, Jutras created the incredible music behind other popular Cirque shows, including “Alegría” and “Le Reve.”
Jutras “really found a balance between Cirque style music that really supports our acrobatic, but yet integrates some of the more cinematic musical approach that you find in animated feature movies,” said Fabrice Becker, creative director of “Drawn to Life,” in the video.
With rock themes, Jutras noted in the video that the soundtrack is more certainly a hybrid of live rock themes and an “orchestral feel.” Though the show lacks lyrics, it creatively relies more on vowel sounds both from the vocalists and the instrumentalists.
