Without further ado, every easter egg and story reveal we found in Pixar’s Lightyear trailer!
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
One of the trailer’s earliest shots informs us of the similarities that this Buzz has to the Buzz that we know over the two decades of his existence.

An astronaut of Star Command, the shot features a nametag and t-shirt that confirm the similarities to the character.
Callback to 2000 Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Animated Series
At one point, fans can hear radio voices prepare for Buzz’s space launch in the trailer; requesting updates from Booster, FIDO, Guidance, and other keys.

These checks are inspired by real-life space exploration, Booster was a fan favorite character present in the 2000 Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Animated Series; and were neat callbacks to the characters in the short-running program.
The World of Lightyear is Inspired By Another Pixar Classic
One thing that fans noticed early on is the incredibly visual components of the upcoming animated films; with some of the aesthetics of the film seemingly inspired by another Pixar classic.

The visual feel of a barren wasteland that seems to perforate within Lightyear feels akin to the world that existed within the film WALL-E; with the film’s title character living on humanless earth that shared much of the same visual qualities.
Buzz Lightyear’s Ship is Powered By an Unknown Crystal.
We know very little about the film, ad we know even less about the technology that seems to exist within it, but the trailer did give us some insight into what we could possibly expect.

In one shot that seemed very purposeful, we notice that Buzz’s ship is powered by some sort of blue crystal; how vital this crystal will be in the happening of the film is unknown, but we are sure it must play a role somehow.
IVAN; The Buzz Lightyear Ship Computer
Another shot from within the Lightyear cockpit shows a computer screen that is seemingly mapping Buzz’s galactic journey around a sun of some sort; within this shot, we see the name IVAN, which will apparently be the name of the ships computer system,.

The name in itself may hold some significance; aside from Pixar’s penchant for giving computers human names, it may also be one inspired by Computer Graphics innovator Ivan Sunderland.
Lightyears First Supporting Character; Hawthorne of Star Command
With so little known about the film and few surprises within the trailer itself, we did get our first look at the movie’s first true supporting character.

Alicia Hawthorne was shown in a few of the film’s shots, and could possibly be a high-ranking official aiding Buzz in his many different adventures; playing a crucial role in the evolution of the character throughout the film.
HyperLaunch, HyperSleep, HyperDrive; Oh My!
When we see Buzz within his cockpit, we see him press a button indicating a transition into HyperLaunch; thus giving more meaning to the Hyper prefix that has existed within the character’s mythology for so long.

When Buzz first emerges from his box in toy Story, we hear him reference being in Hyper Sleep, and when he attempted to aboard the Pizza Planet ship, he asks if it has a HyperDrive; continuing the trend of the word within the universe.
Lightyear is a Sci-Fi Film
The scenes that the trailer showed off arent indicative of a Toy Story spinoff film, but speak to more of a Sci-fi adventure with a brilliantly uncovered Pixar aesthetic.

Unlike classic Pixar films, Lightyear will be a science fiction film that explores this space explorer finding his way in a massive universe still unknown.
Not The Buzz Lightyear Film We Expected
Lightyear is shaping up to be a beautiful, visually stunning film that explores space and exploration in ways one Pixar could bring to life; but it isn’t the family-friendly kind of story one would expect on the heels of a character who has only been seen in toy form.

a shot from Lightyear showing a lonely Buzz amidst an unfamiliar horizon speaks to the visceral, character-driven story that Pixar is bringing to fans who completely know Buzz Lightyear, but still have yet to meet him.
So, Buzz Has Hair?
It wasn’t the incredible landscape, or the fantastically beautiful animated elements of the film that had fans talking long after the trailer ended; it was perhaps the most jarring and unfamiliar choice made for the character…Buzz with hair.

Source: Pixar
Perceived as bald by so many due to his seeming skin tight, skull-capped, astronaut suit; Buzz with hair will probably take some getting used to for most fans.
Lightyear and his Robot Sidekick
With the fast-moving clips that occur in the trailer, one blink or you’ll miss it moment, saw Buzz amidst a swamp-like planet alongside a character yet to be introduced.

A four-eyed robot sidekick, the comedic little moment saw the robot and Buzz peak beyond a fallen tree within the short trailer.
Lightyear’s Star Wars Influence.
Not only does the film seem to take things from the aesthetics Pixar developed for WALL-E, but the film also displays a lot of settings that are seemingly inspired by another immensely popular Disney franchise.

Source: Pixar
The Star Wars influence seems to be clearly seen in Lightyear; with one planet resembling Kamino, and another looking identical to Dagobah; the home of Yoda in the films original, 1970’s trilogy.
Buzz Lightyear Karate Mode is a Real Thing!
In one amazing scene, we see one of Toy Story’s cooler Buzz moments make it into this origin story of a film; with Buzz entering into Karate mode!

Source: Pixar
being startled by a toy cat, Buzz drops him and gets into the famous karate stance that has been shown as a function of the toy in the Toy Story films.
Could That Be Emperor Zurg?
Anyone who knows Buzz Lightyear will know of his arch-enemy and antagonist to his story, the villainous Emporer Zurg.

Source: Pixar
Zurg had a presence in Toy Story 2, and has been teased to be the antagonist to Buzz in this upcoming Lightyear film; could the red smokey door be concealing the villainous space Emporer? we certainly hope so!
Lightyear Call Back to Captain America
The moment that most fans had waited for, Buzz’s world-famous space suit is finally shown; what was incredible, however, is how closely this moment mirrored another Disney films moment.

Source: Pixar
The framing of the scene where Buzz’s suit is revealed mirrors the same moment where The Avengers films show off Captain America’s suit for the first time; which is fitting because…
“To Infinity, And…” We Finally Hear Chris Evans’ Buzz Lightyear
Although Buzz is rarely shown speaking in the trailer, we do get one world from the highly anticipated performance!

Source: Pixar
Uttering the beloved, “to infinity, and beyond” line, we hear Evans speak the final word; with the trailer cutting off before the line could finish mirroring Avengers Age of Ultron ending before Captain America could finish the famed, “Avengers Assemble” line.
