Longoria to Lead “Sal and Gabi” Show for Disney+
Hollywood superstar Eva Longoria will lead the charge in a new television series based on a popular Disney-Hyperion book series. Part of the Rick Riordan Presents series, the heroing tale of Sal and Gabi in “Sal and Gabi Break the Universe” by Carlos Hernandez is sure to make for a riveting sci-fi adventure.
Beloved fantasy writer Rick Riordan himself took to Twitter yesterday to celebrate the major announcement. The Percy Jackson author joined Disney-Hyperion in 2018 to launch Rick Riordan Presents. The project aims to encourage authors of diverse backgrounds to create mythological-based stories from their own ethnicities with a specific focus on middle grade readers, like Riordan has long done.

The Story of Sal and Gabi
Published in 2019, Sal and Gabi’s story explores Cuban culture and myth. After Sal loses his mother, he realizes that he possesses the power to explore other universes. As Sal explores his skills as a magician, he realizes that he is making life-altering tears in the multiverse. The spell-binding story explores how he and Gab attempt to repair the snags and cope with middle school life at the same time.

Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment production company will team up with Disney Branded Television to bring the teenage mutliverse story to the Disney streaming platform in this new original series, according to a Deadline article. Producer Ben Spector runs the film company created by powerhouse Longoria.
“It’s exciting to work with Eva and Ben on such an imaginative story full of heart and adventure that truly feels authentic in its storytelling and representation of characters. Carlos Hernandez’s heartwarming and humorous book is the perfect addition to our slate of development and is in expert hands with Eva and Ben’s production team,” said Ayo Davis, the Disney Branded Television EVP, Creative Development and Strategy, in the article.
Writer Nelson Soler was also announced as part of the project. Soler, who produced “Pretty Little Liars,” also has ties to ABC. Previously, he wrote and produced for the twisted fairytale series, “Once Upon a Time.”
