Traffic at Orlando Airport in July Reached Pre-Pandemic Levels
According to recent statistics released by the Orlando International Airport and despite COVID-19 cases in Florida this Summer, the July figures for traffic in and out of the airport hit pre-pandemic levels!
As outlined in a recent piece by The Orlando Business Journal, more than 4.14 million people passes through the MCO airport terminals during the month of July. It also marks the first time that the airport hit 4 million travelers since February 2020, which is just a month before the coronavirus forced theme parks to shut down.
These figures show us that passenger traffic increased by 249.84% in July (up from 1.18 million travelers in June of 2021.) This is not surprising given the fact that the travel/tourism industry was at a standstill in 2020 Going back a year further into 2019, the traffic from this year is down 7.4% when compared to the 4.48 million passengers that passed through MCO in 2019.
OBJ gives us a further statistics for July here’s a quick look:
- 3.94 million domestic passengers in MCO for July 2021 (That’s up 235.73% from the 1.173 million in July 2020.)
- 208,559 international passengers for July 2021 (down 65.8% from July 2019.)
The increase in passengers for the month is being attributed to new flights from Orlando International Airport from airlines that include Air Canada, Avianca, Emirates, Frontier Airlines, Icelandair, Lafam Airlines and WestJet. The decrease in international travel is obviously a result of travel restrictions still in place due to the coronavirus.
All-in-all these statistics are good news for the travel industry in Orlando including Walt Disney World. Orlando International Airport is the airport that the majority of out-of-state guests fly to when visiting the theme parks. We hope that this upward trajectory continues.
