Post, Website Appear to Tease Return of Beloved EPCOT Performer Sergio
On Tuesday night, a true EPCOT staple, the beloved mime and juggler Master Juggler Sergio, took to Facebook to tease a potential return to the Italy pavillion. Photographs and a description of his clever performance and light-hearted presence also returned to the Walt Disney World website. Now, fans wait to find out when the masterful entertainer might finally return to World Showcase.
Though a quick search for available showtimes on the calendar at WaltDisneyWorld.com yields no results, we still have hope that Sergio will bring his hilarious antics and well-trained skills back to the pavillion soon.
Known widely not only for his unique abilities to engage audiences of all ages but also his quirky outfit choices, Sergio’s presence in the park (or lack thereof) is certainly felt on any trip around the World Showcase.
Much of the Old World-trained mime’s performance featured the same wonderfully-predictable and endearing routine that made him a favorite for many EPCOT super fans. To add a bit of surprise, he often added thematic choices to his ensemble depending on the season.
The hallmark of his almost-hourly show most days of the week though did not rest in his costuming but in his inviting nature and warm spirit, which enabled him to develop a following of supporters that span generations over the years.
World Showcase Performers Return
Like so many performers, Sergio’s contract with the Walt Disney Company ended aburptly in March 2020 just before the Walt Disney World Resort shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With larger performance groups rejoining the entertainment line-up at the innovative theme park earlier this year, we hope that Sergio’s return to parks is only a matter of time. Entertainment remains at the heart of the guest experience at EPCOT, including one-person performers like the talented juggler, and full-scale groups, including Mariachi Cobre.
To allow for social distancing early in the pandemic re-opening, those larger groups did often relocate to larger venues. Mariachi Cobre performed for the last few months at the America Gardens Theatre, the outdoor pavillion at the American Adventure. Bands have also been spotted playing at the Canada Pavillion, and “The Piano Lady” Carol Stein can be seen showing off her incredible piano skills in the English garden gazebo at the United Kingdom pavillion. Previously, she performed inside of the Rose & Crown Pub (and at the Comedy Warehouse at Pleasure Island long ago).
