Who Is Ready To Do a Deep Dive of the Seas Pavilion at EPCOT?
I’m often asked by guests where one of my favorite places to go at EPCOT is and its easy. I LOVE the Seas Pavilion in Future World. Where else can you enjoy a dark ride featuring Nemo and Friend, watch one of the animal specialists feed manatees and get lost amongst the tranquel aquarium exhibit.
And then there’s the most important deep sea treat of them all – SCUBA MICKEY!
But amongst all of this underwater magic, it’s easy to forget the cast members that bring this magical undersea world to life, EPCOT’s incredible cast members.
With that in mind, Disney Parks Blog recently did a feature on the team members at The Seas and we are excited to pass on some of the details of this with you.
Dave Masters and Jim Harrison are two of the Dive Masters you’ll find at EPCOT. Isn’t that an awesome job title!? When asked what their job entails they advised that they are in the water all day where they work with the animals on everything from feeding to cleanliness!
Being a Dive Master definitely has its perks. Chief among them is getting smiles from all of the guests that visit the aquarium while David and Jim are swimming around in the tanks!
Another awesome job you’ll find at the Seas is aquarists like Amy Jo who puts a system in place to train the animals on when/how to feed.
Jo advised that training for feeding is something that cast members work with the animals on from the moment they arrive at the Seas.
The process starts off in a smaller environment where the animals can learn to associate a specific target with their food.
Through the training process the animals begin to associate their specific target with their food! That means they are ready to move to larger environment secure in the knowledge that when they see their target, even amongst a group of other animals, they’ll get their food.
Ever wondered what the animals at the seas eat? According to their team, food varies by species. but the target system works similar. Each target has a hole drilled in the middle and animals are fed through the whole.
And, if you’ve ever seen the divers hovering around the animals as they’re feeding, we know no why. This is an opportune time for cast members to do a wellness check to make sure that the animals are healthy and happy.
All of the awesome animal care specialists we showcased above can be seen at The Seas most days. So be on the lookout. You may recognize some familiar faces.
And if all this has you inspired to help facilities like the acquarium you’ll find at EPCOT then we recommend that you donate to the Disney Conservation Fund which helps to project and preserve marine wildlife.
