Captain Carter Will Have an Integral Role in Each Season of Marvel’s ‘What If…?’
Marvel has found a new avenue to continue expanding their evergrowing universe in the form of streaming shows on Disney+; one of those shows has found its pinnacle character, as it’s being reported that Captain Carter will have an Integral role in each season of Marvel’s What If…?
One of the great characters in Marvel’s pantheon is that of Peggy Carter, and it appears that the MCU will see the character return to the forefront in the Studios newest series.
The series, titled after the Marvel comic series What If…?, will operate in response to the Multiversal destruction that took place at the end of Loki’s first season.
The series will feature various stories that take advantage of the limitlessness of the Multiverse; showing some of Marvel’s most prominent characters in different and imaginative ways.
One such alternate timeline sees English special forces agent Peggy Carter take the super-soldier serum that turned the sickly Steve Rogers into the revered Captain America.
The exposure to the serum transformed the magnificent Peggy into the spectacular Captain Carter; taking the place of Captain Carter, and fighting alongside Steve Rogers- equipped with his own Hydra Stomper suit, inspired by the Iron Man suit.
It has been reported today that What If…? is already slotted for a second season, and the news has allowed the people working on the series to speak on what fans can expect; this is when the show’s executive producer spoke on Captain Carter’s role in the series.
Brad Winderbaum spoke with io9, as reported by gizmodo.com, about the series’ creative voices agreement on the necessity of a central character to guide the audience through the shifting and changing narratives.
It was in this interview that Winderbaum verified that Captain Carter will have an integral in each season of Marvel’s What If…?
Winderbaum noted that the series needed someone, “not more important than the rest, but had a strong relationship with the Watcher- who was our driving force behind the series- and that’s Captain Carter.”
Winderbaum continued,
We realized as we started developing the second season that Captain Carter was going to be the character we would revisit in every season, and continue that adventure. Obviously, we’re telling a story on a giant multiversal canvas. So you never really know who’s going to pop up where and when. It’s very much an anthology, but there’s always opportunity for fun connections to be made.
Fans can expect a lot of Captain Carter throughout the anthology series, which should work well to provide a great opportunity to explore one of Marvel’s most underrated characters.
