Let’s Recap The Changes at Disneyland Resort
This is a time of HUGE changes at Disneyland Resort, earlier this morning we reported that as of tomorrow guests will no longer be required to wear face masks at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. In addition to that big news there has also been some other changes you’ll want to be aware of if planning a Disneyland getaway in the weeks ahead!.
Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer Pamela Hymel sent out a letter out to Disneyland employees this morning outlining policy changes. According to a recent piece in the Orange County Register, this includes:
- An increase in attendance
- Dropping mask requirements (for vaccinated individuals.)
- Eliminating need for social distancing
- Continue to require Theme Park Reservations
These changes are due large and in part to the fact that the California Economy will have a full reopening on Tuesday, June 15th. Under these state guidelines, the parks are given permission to return to full capacity and to stop most pandemic-related health and safety measures.
No More Masks
Disneyland Resort will no longer require that masks be worn for any individual that is fully vaccinated. This goes into effect on Tuesday. If you’re unvaccinated, Disney is still expecting you to wear a mask though this policy is in good faith. Disneyland has confirmed that they will not be asking for proof of vaccination.
This ONLY time guests will be required to wear face masks is when guests are boarding Disney transportation to and from the parks. This is important when the Toy Story parking lot officially reopens (Friday, June 18th.)
Cast Members Still Required To Wear Face Masks
As of going to print, Disneyland Cast Members will still be expected to wear masks at work regardless of whether or not you’ve been vaccinated. Physical distancing of 6 feet is also rfecommended.
However, Disneyland is loosening the restrictions when it comes to employees required to wear face shields. As of tomorrow cast members can instead choose to wear and N95 mask, safety glasses or a face shield.
No More Social Distancing
Disney has also announced that as of tomorrow (June 15th), physical distancing will no longer be required at the theme parks. According to the piece in the OC Register, ground markings in the queues and signage are being removed from both theme parks.
Similar to the policies for face masks, guests are expect to self-determine social distancing depending on whether or not you’ve been vaccinated.
No More Temperature Checks
As of tomorrow, Disneyland will no longer be requiring temperature checks for visitors or employees. However, Dr. Hymel did advise in her letter to cast members that employees are still required to conduct temperature checks a s part of their “at home health screenings” before coming to work.

Theme Park Reservations Will Continue
Though theme park reservations aren’t very popular among theme park visitors, it is a great way for Disney to keep a tight grasp on how many guests are in the theme parks at a time. As capacity starts to slowly increase, Dr. Hymel’s cast member memo advised that the Theme Park Reservation system will be staying in place.
For those unfamiliar when the theme parks reopened this Spring, Disneyland required ALL guests to make theme park reservations in addition to having a valid ticket. Reservations can be made online (a bit like a dining reservation) and they do sell out quickly. If you attempt to visit the theme park with only a theme park reservation or a ticket you will not be allowed in. You MUST have both for the foreseeable future.

More Openings Still To Come
Guests can expect many additional changes in the weeks ahead. Both Paradise Pier Hotel and Disneyland Hotel will start welcoming back guests on July 2nd but with limited capacity.
Things That Will Continue to Remain Closed
Even with the changes outlined above there are still over 20 rides and 20 eateries that remain closed across Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. We will keep you updated as soon as we’ve heard more regarding potential reopenings.
