‘Black Widows’ Scarlett Johansson Comments on Marvel Future
After a decade of portraying the former assassin Natasha Romoff in the MCU, Scarlett Johansson finally comments on her Marvel future, and whether this summer’s Black Widow is truly the end for the MCU veteran.
Debuting in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Black Widow presented fans with the fiercest, and first female member, of the quickly forming Avengers team.
She was smart, she was stunning, she was sophisticated, but more than all of that, she was as strong as every ally, or foe, she came across during her time on screen.
One can imagine the influx of emotions that come from saying goodbye to a character, and a universe, that has so defined the better part of ten years for the revered actress.
With an uncertain future in tow, Scarlett Johansson has finally commented on her future with the company in an interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar).
The actress first brought to light that mixture of emotions stemming from leaving behind such a wealth of work as one character, what’s to come for their constant collaboration, and finally what the future looks like for her and Natasha.
“It’s definitely bittersweet because I love my Marvel family,” The actress noted. “I’m never going to be ready to not be a part of it. They’ll always be family. I’ll never feel ready to not be in it because I hate to feel like I’m missing out on stuff with them.”
The actress then discussed the future for her and Marvel, and what could potentially be next for their partnership, noting, “who knows? Maybe at some point, we’ll have some opportunity to collaborate in some other kind of way.”
What may come as news to some fans is that Johansson did not only star as her recurring character in the Black Widow film, she also served as one of the projects top producers.
“It was certainly wonderful to be able to produce this with them, because I got to really know the process, and know them in a whole other intimate way.” The actress stated about embracing the producer role.
As far as whether the actress felt like returning to the character is a possibility, Johansson was clear to note the positive closure she experienced when giving Romanoff her final goodbye in this film.
Johansson stated, “It was very exciting. At the same time, I really feel good about moving on from this chapter.”
Expounding upon her feelings of closure, and the final product of the film, Johansson continued, “Everything in [the film] has intention and purpose. And, you know, I will always love Natasha. I’ve loved to play her, and I feel that she stands alone in this universe in a way that I feel really good about.”
Much can be gained from Scarlett Johansson’s comments on her Marvel future, but it is her final statement on her lasting legacy in the MCU that speaks the most to her content with her contributions to the MCU as a whole.
“it’s always better to leave a situation when you’re on top. And to feel good about something. It’s great. And I feel on top with this. I really do. I’m really proud of it.”
