Doctor Strange Guides Mystic Power Discovery at Ancient Sanctum
Coming face-to-face with Doctor Strange may sound slightly terrifying, but guests will be able to do just that tomorrow when the Ancient Sanctum opens within Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park.
“This has been a global storytelling effort. We are telling these stories at a scale we’ve never been able to do before,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Portfolio Exectuive Director Scot Drake during a media preview yesterday, according to an article in USA Today.
Avengers Campus aims to put guests in the middle of the MCU narrative with new stories and unexpected action, including a chance to learn the secrets of mystic arts from the one-and-only Doctor Strange.
During a Disney Parks Blog livestream last night, viewers saw the awe-inpsiring Orb of Cagliostro, a focal point of the Ancient Sanctum.
Recruits that visit the sanctum will not only learn which mystical abilities they possess. They will also discover skills that they may need later to defend our galaxy from threats beyond the imagination.
The Story of the Sanctum
Now, Avengers recruits will walk through the ruins, studying their incredible art and the secrets hidden within their symbology.
The land truly comes alive at night, so visitors will want to make sure to visit after dark. One may even find magical energy glowing from quite a distance.
Designing a Centuries-Old Sanctum
Color, light, and textural finishes dominate the meticulously chosen elements of the Ancient Sanctum. An attention to each specific material and lighting detail truly bring the world of Dr. Steven Strange to life.
During the virtual tour last night on Disney Parks Blog, Avengers Campus Art Director Heidi Rosendahl talked about the exciting challenges of designing the space. A true combination of ancient artifacts and materials with elements of the modern world, the Ancient Sanctum embodies all that is the magic of Doctor Strange’s world.
Recruits will even watch Doctor Strange use his sling ring to travel via portal from Avengers Campus to his main home at Sanctum Sanctorum on Bleeker street in New York. Portals are placed throughout the campus for interdimensional attack defense.
The ancient sanctum itself looks as though it saw better days as we find the stone structure partially in ruins. The copper orb and symbology throughout though maintained its grandeur and mysticism over time.
Doctor Strange and the rest of the Avengers (as well as their challenging foes) begin training new recruits at Avengers Campus tomorrow when the new land officially opens at Disney California Adventure Park.
