CDC Approves Cruising Restart From the United States Beginning Next Month
It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 15 months since a cruise set sail from the United States. I have been following the return to cruising very closely for these past several months but I am so excited to report that the day all of us cruising enthusiasts have been waiting for is finally here – the CDC has finally approved a cruise to set sail once again from the United States beginning on June 26!
While I am excited to announce that cruising from the United States is officially back, this does not mean that every ship or even every cruise line is ready to set sail – yet.

The Edge will sail from Port Canaveral in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 7 night voyages to the Caribbean. Celebrity Cruise Lines will require all Guests who are 16 and older to be fully vaccinated with the requirement of 95% of passengers being fully vaccinated. Since Celebrity has these guidelines in place, they will not be required to do the stimulated or test cruises.
A fun fact about the Celebrity Edge: Kate McCue is the captain of the Edge and the first American woman to serve as captain of a major cruise ship.

Speaking of test cruises, it was also announced earlier this week that Royal Caribbean is permitted to start their first test cruise next month as well. Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas will offer a test cruise from the Port of Miami June 20.

As far at Disney Cruise Line goes, we are still in a holding pattern. However, with these recent developments it sounds like the CDC is really working now to get cruising back from the United States. While all Disney Cruises from the United States are cancelled through July, I am more and more optimistic that Disney Cruises will be back in the water – including a shortened Alaska season – this August.
