COVID-19 ‘Under Control’ in Orange County, Florida per 14-Day Percent Positive Rate
Orange County, Florida – home to most of the Walt Disney Resort – hit a huge milestone today! COVID-19 is now considered “under control” in Orange County as their 14-day rolling average for percent positive rates has fell below the all-important 5%.
As Lauren Seabrook has reported on Twitter (@LSeabrookWFTV), the 14-day rolling positivity rate is currently at 4.9%.

The World Health Organization considers COVID-19 “under control” when the 14-day test percent positive rate is below 5%. Per the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the perfect positive rate is determined by “the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that are actually positive or: (positive tests)/(total tests) x 100%.

A few weeks ago, it was announced by Mayor of Orange County, Jerry Demings, that the outdoor masked mandate would be dropped when the county’s percent positivity average was under 5% for 14 days. However, that mandate was later overruled by the Governor of Floridan, Ron DeSantis, when he announced that all local emergency COVID-19 restrictions would be immediately suspended throughout the state.
In addition, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), announced on May 15, that they would be dropping their outdoor and indoor mask recommendation for all Americans who are fully vaccinated. The next day, May 16, Walt Disney World also modified their mask mandate and Guests are no longer required to wear them when outdoors. They are still required in indoor queues as well as indoor attractions and shows.
