Tron Construction Update: Outdoor Construction Rapidly Progressing While Building Remains Sealed
Although Disney has yet to announce when Magic Kingdom’s newest coaster will launch its first guests through Tomorrowland, the construction on Tron Lightcycle run is certainly making progress!
I visited Magic Kingdom just a few days ago and witnessed some construction work taking place on the coming attraction. As the track wrappings remain in place to protect it from weather, the work has moved from the erection and finalization of the ride’s track onto the surrounding canopy and ground.
The View From Fantasyland
The light gray metal pieces you see are the actual ride track, while the white beams will hold the giant canopy that will cover the track when construction is complete.
From the ground in Fantasyland, I noticed that the canopy beams itself were being reinforced with newly completed concrete pours. The metal pieces that support the concrete can still be seen protruding from the top, meaning there is likely still more concrete reinforcements to be done.
The View From Tomorrowland
I’m very curious about when we’ll finally hear an opening announcement for Tron, so I decided to take to the Peoplemover to get a better view of the construction!
I was in luck! As I enjoyed my bird’s eye tour of Tomorrowland, I caught glimpses of active crews working to level the ground around the track and canopy area.
Massive diggers and cranes worked to remove extra concrete near the attraction.
So…When Will Tron Open?
Your guess is as good as mine. With the show building remaining completely sealed and crews working on seemingly only the surrounding ground and supports near the attraction…I have a feeling it’s going to be awhile.
Disney is great at quickly completing massive construction projects, but seeing little progress being on the actual attraction, I have a strong feeling Disney is in absolutely no rush to finish Tron. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see an opening date until late 2022 or beyond. But, that’s just my guess! When do you think Tron will open at Magic Kingdom? Leave me a comment and let me know! I’d love to start a conversation!

The concrete forms that are being poured are likely part of the enclosure that will “hide” the Walt Disney World Railroad track that will be laid underneath the Tron LightCycle canopy to complete the Railroad’s loop around Magic Kingdom. The enclosure is depicted in the concept art for the completed Tron LightCycle attraction. Materials for the Railroad’s track (ties and rails) are staged on the edge of the Tron construction site.
