The character’s name is Jess and “she’s compassionate, funny, and always has your back”. Pixar is asking that if you know someone suitable for this role to reach out to casting@pixar.com.
Disney has had such diversity before. Over the years, Marvel has tried through their comics and films to support diversity. Though there have been characters in the past that have appeared on the LGBT spectrum, and back in 2019 the company officially revealed its first transgender superhero! The Mighty Rebekah, is inspired by a 12-year old transgender girl (of the same name) and is part of Marvel’s Hero Project series on Disney Plus.
In addition, the series on Disney+ offers a more in-depth look at Rebekah’s transition including her religious faith and Marvel’s commitment to increase LGBT visibility.
