Could Disney Be Developing Another Office/Residential Area in Lake Nona?
Could Disney be setting it’s sights on a new location for a Celebration-esque multi-use development? If you’ve been following along with us here at MickeyBlog you’ll know that Disney is relocating some California based jobs to the Sunshine State. With that in mind, we are hearing reports that Disney is in talks to develop another mixed-use community in Central Florida. This is according to a recent piece the appeared in the Orlando Business Journal.
According to the report, Disney and developer Tavistock are in talks to build a residential and commercial community in Lake Nona in southeast Orlando. It is believed that this is as a result of Disney’s commitment to relocate jobs from California to the “master-planned community.” However, as of going to print, the size and scope of the project has yet to be revealed. The Orlando Business Journal also cautions that talks are in the early stages which means that a deal may not occur. Both Disney and Tavistock declined to comment. .
Lake Nona is an area in greater Orlando that continues to grow. Tavistock is looking to develop 4,192 residential units along with 2.4 million square feet of nonresidential space. The OBJ reports that this would be in a 1,800 area located just west of Narcoossee Road, north of Boggy Creek Road and east of Hidden Trail Road. For those unfamiliar with the Lake Nona area, it is also known as Poitras.
Disney is no stranger to mixed-use community spaces. A great example is Celebration which is located close to Disney World in Osceola County. Construction also continues on Disney’s multi-million dollar luxury home development Golden Oak with houses being swept off the market nearly as quickly as they’re posted. Disney also has another mixed-use project underway with Flamingo Crossings Town Center.

It should be noted that the Lake Nona community would sit 18 miles away from Walt Disney World. This would make it much further away than some of Disney’s other community ventures. Whatever the future may hold for the Lake Nona development, we do know that it is still in the very early stages. However, this is a story that we here at MickeyBlog will continue to follow closely!
