Black Widow
The wondering is over. Disney has announced that Marvel’s Black Widow is being moved to July 9th instead of May 7th and that it will be offered simultaneously on Disney+ for a Premier Access fee of $29.99. “Black Widow” stars Scarlett Johansson and takes place after the events of 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” It was originally supposed to be released in May of last year but was delayed three times amid the pandemic.
Cruella
The live action film starring Emma Stone as one of Disney’s most nefarious baddies is keeping its May 28th release date. However, it will also go to Disney+ for a $29.99 Premier Access debut at the same time.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Because things are so closely interconnected in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and because Black Widow is being moved, that also means that in order for the timeline to stay chronological Shang-Chi will need to be moved as well. This film has now been bumped back to September 3rd. As of going to print is expected to have a traditional cinematic release with no word about it going to Disney+. The film will put the spotlight on Simu Liu as the superhero who grabbles with his past as he is drawn into the Ten Rings organization. It features Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh.
Luca
Pixar’s next film, the coming of age adventure Luca will NOW be going straight to Disney+ where it will debut on June 18th at no extra cost.
Free Guy
This 20th Century release staring Ryan Reynolds will now debut on August 13th and it appears at theaters only.
The King’s Man
Another 20th Century Film heading straight to theaters, the new premiere date is December 22nd.
Deep Water
This film starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas will now be released on January 14, 2022.
Death on the Nile
Kenneth Branagh tackles Agatha Christie once again when Death on the Nile debuts on February 11, 2022.
Kareem Daniel, the chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment distribution, says the announcement “reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences.” He continues, “By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world,” he said.
