Tron Lightcycle Run Construction Update
We still don’t have an opening date for the Tron Lightcycle Run, but construction marches on! We have another update for you as our MickeyBlogger captured some photos of the progress today in Magic Kingdom.
Canopy Takes Shape
The “Upload Conduit” has taken on its iconic wavy shape but pieces still continue to be added. We see the cranes still placing pieces of the infrastructure.
When the color-changing canopy is complete, the mess of brown structural supports will be removed and the futuristic look will really come to life!
You can see some white brackets, or plates, all over the white structural pieces of the canopy. Based on the existing Tron Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland Resort, these brackets will be used to attach the fabric canopy, forming Tron’s signature shape.
We even caught a little of the welding work on video, seen below. It’s kind of neat to see a future park icon coming to life, isn’t it?
Massive Size
The many green cranes and the crew in the buckets really show the massive size and scale of this new Tomorrowland attraction. The ride is located behind the Tomorrowland Speedway and Space Mountain, part of the Tomorrowland overhaul taking place at Magic Kingdom.
The formidable gravity building is no small structure either, though much less visually intriguing. Based on conceptual drawings, the building won’t really be visible to guests once the ride is complete. The futuristic, glowing canopy out front will capture guests attention and we expect it to be simply stunning when complete!
Ride Concept
This new ride is a replica of the Tron coaster in Shanghai. Guests will race under the Conduit on their Lightcycles on the computerized Grid of Life in both indoor and outdoor track segments. The two-wheeled Lightcycles are similar to the ride vehicles on the Avatar: Flight of Passage ride in Animal Kingdom, but these “bikes” will launch riders close to 60mph, the fastest roller coaster in Disney Parks history!
The Tron Lightcycle Power Run coaster has no set opening date yet, but Disney has announced the ride will not be open for the 50th anniversary weekend in the Fall.
