Both Disneyland Parks Projected to Reopen Late April 2021
Just last week, California changed their COVID-10 restrictions to allow venues such as theme parks to reopen after April 1, 2021. Today, during the Shareholder Meeting, The Walt Disney Company’s CEO, Bob Chapek, announced that he sees both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park reopening by late April 2021.
Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park closed just about a year ago when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Since then, The Downtown Disney District has reopened and a new food and beverage special event, “A Touch of Disney” will begin on March 18, 2021.

It was originally announced that Disneyland would reopen this past July 2020. However, the State of California never reviewed the reopening plans and reiterated that they would not be reopening any theme parks in the state until COVID cases came way down.
It took some time, but the state of California has thankfully seen their COVID cases, hospitalizations, and deaths come down since their peak. With the improvement in numbers, Disneyland will be able to reopen with social distancing and health protocols in place, at 15% capacity beginning April 1, 2021.

Even though Disneyland might be able to begin their phased reopening on April 1, 2021, it will take some time to bring in laid off and furloughed Cast Members. They all will have to be trained and brought up to speed on all the new healthy and safety measures.
Here is the official statement from Bob Chapek on Disneyland reopening in late April 2021:
Here in California, we’re encouraged by the positive trends we’re seeing and we’re hopeful they’ll continue to improve and we’ll be able to reopen our Parks to guests with limited capacity by late April – we look forward to publicizing an opening date in the coming weeks. While last week’s announcement stated that theme parks may open starting on April 1, the fact is it will take some time to get them ready for our guests – this includes recalling more than 10,000 furloughed Cast and retraining them to be able to operate according to the State of California’s new requirements. I am pleased to say the response has been great thus far, our Cast Members are excited to get back to work. And this is also good news for the Anaheim community, which depends on Disneyland for jobs and business generated by visitors.
