10 Things We Love About Blizzard Beach On REOPENING DAY!
Happy reopening Blizzard Beach! Today is a HUGE cause for celebration Disney Friends as one of Disney World’s incredible water parks officially reopens to the public! Blizzard Beach will once again be welcoming guests starting at 11 am today and MickeyBlog will be there! In the meantime, we thought we’d celebrate by sharing 10 things with you that we can’t wait to experience again at this beloved water park!
1. Wintry Theme
One of the things that makes Blizzard Beach such a quirky and fun place to hang out is the backstory. Blizzard Beach is a melted ski resort and what remains is a slushy wonderful water-filled paradise! Mount Gushmore is the mountainous peak that has pride of place at the center of park and houses many of the attractions designed to appeal to your inner daredevil! Where else can you hang out at a Ski Lodge in the middle of central Florida!?
2. Chair Lift!
Every ski resort has a chair life to take you up the slopes and Blizzard Beach is no exception. This slow-moving experience offers a picturesque journey to some of the parks more formidable slides including Summit Plummet, Slush Gusher and Teamboat Springs. Guests must be at least 32 inches tall to ride and those under 48 inches must be accompanied by an adult!
3. Cross Country Creek
It’s been a tough year Disney friends and we can’t think of a better way to unwind than taking some time to meander along Blizzard Beach’s lazy river – Cross Country Creek. Measuring 3,000 feet, the river has the distinction of being one of the longest lazy rivers in the country. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete one journey along the waterway!
4. Mini Donuts
Blizzard Beach has a few treats that have reached cult-like status. Chief among them are the mini donuts served up at Joffrey’s. These traditional donuts are served warm and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. You can pick them up by the dozen or half dozen. And literally, the icing on the cake is that they come with your choice of dipping sauces including Chocolate, Raspberry or White Chocolate.
5. Summit Plummet
Did you know that Blizzard Beach is home to one of the fastest waterslides in the world!? Summit Plummet is a 120 foot waterslide with a near vertical drop. Guests can hit speeds of up to 65 mph making it one of the fastest attractions in all of Walt Disney World!
6. Polar Patios
Amidst all of the excitement of a Water Park visit, its important to set aside some quality family time and the Polar Patios are just the ticket. Renting one of these designated cabana areas is a perfect way for your family to relax and unwind together. Each patio can accommodate up to 6 guests and comes with a variety of amenities including:
- Towels
- Cushioned seating
- A Locker
- Refillable drink mugs
- Ice Water.
Attendants are also on hand to take food and drink orders (separate dining charges apply.) To reserve your patio in advance call 407.WDW.PLAY.
7. Polar Pub
Blizzard Beach has an awesome bar brimming with adult libations! The Polar Pop offers specialty cocktails that conjure up those holiday vibes. My favorite is the Black Cherry Lemonade. This froze drink combines Three Olives Cherry Vodka, Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, Lime Juice, Grenadine and a splash of Sprite.
8. Tike’s Peak
- Miniature snow-banked slides
- Side-by-side downhill slides
- A junior inner-tube ride
- Snow chutes
You can watch your little ones frolic amidst melting show sculptures or start a water fight on an igloo fortress. When it comes time to try off there is a sandy area around Tike’s Peak that is perfect for relaxing!
9. Melt-Away Bay
Enjoy a Day at the beach and listen to the sounds of the waves lapping at the shore at Blizzard Beach’s heated wave pool. Mount Gushmore’s massive waterfalls cascade into Melt-Away Bay creating short waves perfect for floating. Grab your inner tube and bob out to the warm swells or swim out to the rock outcrops and bask under a refreshing waterfall. Need a break? Swim ashore and lounge on the white sandy beaches!
10. Teamboat Springs
Make your Blizzard Beach experience a family affair as you are propelled through 1,200 feet of twists and turns on this super-long, super-wide waterslide. You’re crew will love this epic journey down the mountain while facing some rather unpredictable rapids. Hang on to the handles as your oversized inner-tube banks left and right and rotates randomly subjecting your to drenching sprays.
