Disney Park Pass Theme Park Reservations Likely To Be Required Through 2022 and Beyond
Just this morning, Disney released Walt Disney World vacation packages for the first part of 2022! As part of the roll out, Disney has also extended the likelihood of Disney Park Pass theme park reservations to be required for all visits in 2022 and even into 2023.
Walt Disney World originally instituted the Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system last Summer when the Parks reopened after the extended COVID-19 closure. The system was designed to require Guests to book their “reservation” to Parks in advance as a way to keep track of capacity levels and to be sure they were not exceeded.

When the Disney Park Pass system went live last July, the calendar showed dates to September 2021. It was later extended to January 2022. Today, it has been extended through January 2023 which means it is likely that Disney Park Pass theme park reservations will be required for at least another year or more.
While Disney Park Pass theme park reservations will still be required in 2022, Disney has recently stated that they are optimistic that their mask mandate and social distancing requirements will no longer be in effect in 2022, if not before. Disney stated that the pace of which vaccines distributed will determine when they can list these COVID-19 protocols.

Personally, I am a fan of the Disney Park Pass system and am happy to see it being extended through 2022. It especially comes in handy during peak times to visit including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and other holidays.

I don’t like the reservation system because I choose the night before based on hours of operation, crowds, transportation, and if I didn’t or did all I wanted during the previous day. Also, in my case, if I don’t get on ROR virtual queue then I absolutely would want to try again but if I did get into it then I wouldn’t want too many reserved days for HS. (which I don’t like virtual queue either; I’d rather choose whether the wait is worth it to me or not; not trust chance.) I also, don’t like park pass reservations because it makes park hopping more difficult. With shortened park hours, the 2pm hop window is intrusive to smooth transitions. Disney has other means to track attendance and capacity.
