Disney Cruise Line Alaskan Cruises Look Unlikely in 2021 After Canadian Ban Extended
This is definitely not the cruise news I was looking to share today. But, the 2021 Alaskan Cruise Season looks to be in jeopardy for Disney Cruise Line and all other cruise lines after Canada just announced they were extending their cruise ship ban.

The Canadian Minister of Transport, Honourable Omar Alghabra just announced “two new Interim Orders, which prohibit pleasure craft in Canadian Arctic waters and cruise vessels in all Canadian waters until February 28, 2022.” Nearly all 2021 Alaskan Cruises, including Disney Cruised Line’s lineup, set sail and/or return to a port in Canada and sail in Canadian waters

The ban impacts the following:
- Adventure-seeking pleasure craft are still prohibited from entering Arctic waters.
- Passenger vessels carrying more than 12 people are still prohibited from entering Arctic coastal waters, including Nunatsiavut, Nunavik, and the Labador Coast.
- Cruise vessels carrying 100 or more people are still prohibited from operating in Canadian waters.

The ban was originally scheduled to be lifted this month on February 28, 2021.
The Honourable Omar Alghabra stated, “As Canadians continue to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, our government continues to work hard to ensure Canada’s transportation system remains safe. Temporary prohibitions to cruise vessels and pleasure craft are essential to continue to protect the most vulnerable among our communities and avoid overwhelming our health care systems. This is the right and responsible thing to do.”

While it doesn’t look like we will be able to sail with Disney Cruise Line on an Alaskan cruise this year, I am highly optimistic we will see the return to cruising some time within the next few months. If I am right, it will mostly be Bahamian and Caribbean cruises. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if some Mediterranean cruises sailed too. Currently Disney Cruise Line has cancelled all cruises through April 2021 and a few in early May 2021.
I do want to stress, that at this time, Disney Cruise Line has NOT officially cancelled any cruises for the 2021 Alaskan season. Make sure to keep it here with MickeyBlog.com as we continue to cover this developing story.
