Monorail Loop Gingerbread Tasting Showdown!
The new walking path connecting the Grand Floridian and The Contemporary just opened. When I checked it out the other night, I decided to make the most of the journey by tasting my way around the new path!
It is the Holiday season after all, and both The Grand Floridian and The Contemporary are baking up some festive favorites in their respective kitchens. Both of these Monorail Loop Resorts have sold fantastic gingerbread in years past, and I had to find out for myself once and for all who bakes the better gingerbread. Let’s go!
Grand Floridian
I started things off at the Grand Floridian. I purchased one of their gingerbread boy cookies via mobile order and quickly received my order.
I found a seat outside and anxiously dug into my bag…only to find that the gingerbread cookie was a pre-packaged cookie from an offsite bakery.
I tried to not let that sway my judging though, so I dug in! The cookie was surprisingly good considering it was clearly not made in the Grand Floridian bakery!
The overall design was cute, the spice balance was good, and the cookie was pretty fresh considering.
I would definitely classify the texture as more closely resembling a ginger snap cookie than a traditional gingerbread boy cookie (they are supposed to be much softer) but I did not dislike the cookie at all. I wished I had a cup of coffee or tea though, this harder, biscuit-like texture needed something to go with it. Points are deducted for being pre-packaged though.
SCORE: 6.5/10
Contemporary
First off: I love the new walking path! It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the Grand to Magic Kingdom, which in my book beats the monorail any day! Now, you can walk all the way from Transportation and Ticket Center to the Contemporary!
Finally, I arrived in the atrium of the Contemporary…and I was met with a welcome sight! A whole display showcasing the desserts made in-house by the Contemporary Bakery Team raised my hopes that this round of gingerbread might have that homemade flare I was hoping for…
And I was right! The Contemporary’s soft but somehow still incredibly chewy gingerbread cookie was everything the Grand Floridian’s gingerbread boy lacked.
The ginger flavor really stands out here! If you were a fan of the amazing gingerbread boys and gingerbread shingles sold at the Contemporary in years past, I have great news…this is the exact same recipe!
While definitely thinner than the Grand’s, the Contemporary’s gingerbread is the real deal folks. Unmatched in texture, flavor, and overall design (how cute is that royal icing Mickey button??) the Contemporary’s gingerbread was the clear winner!
Not only was this cookie a flavor-packed win, enjoying it alongside a cup of their frozen hot cocoa watching the monorail pass overhead only made the delicious experience even better.
SCORE: 10/10
