Bob Iger Checks In From The NBA Bubble
The NBA Playoffs are in full swing and if you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you know that the teams have descended on upon Walt Disney World to complete their season. The playoff games are currently taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports with a bubble created at select areas of Walt Disney World to help combat the spread of COVID-19.
Though initially off to a rocky start with reports of players leaving the grounds or complaining about the accommodation, things seem to have mellowed and the games are taking center stage. Today sees Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder squaring off and Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers.
Over the weekend former DIsney CEO Bob Iger visited the Bubble and took to Instagram to share his visit. Check out the post below:
This week I had the privilege of watching #NBAPlayoffs at the bubble and seeing firsthand the incredible feat executed by our @WaltDisneyWorld cast members and the @nba. Congratulations and thanks to all for saving the NBA season! pic.twitter.com/TFI63NzuOv

In the tweet Iger said that he spent the week at Disney World and had a chance to see the “incredible feat” of Cast Members and the NBA in organizing the playoffs. With his post came a few photos of his visit. Let’s take a closer look:
Here’s Iger showing off his NBA accessories including name badge, and official NBA face mask and even an NBA MagicBand. There is a whole host of incredible NBA merchandise at the theme parks just now. Check out this article if you’re in the area and want to nab some goodies!
The other two pictures Iger shared are of games taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World. The one thing that really stands out are the virtual fans.
The spectator screens are a brilliant way to help players connect with the fans but it’s still an odd sight!
Iger’s visit marks the first time we’ve actively seen the former Disney CEO at the parks since the COVID-19 shutdown. Earlier this week we reported that Disney execs, who took a COVID-19 salary cut (including Iger) will see their paychecks go back to normal this month. As Disney World continues its phased reopening it will be interesting if/when Iger opts to visit the parks again!
This is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog so keep checking in with us for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
