Could Disney Be Considering Another Luke Skywalker Film?
We’ve got some interesting news to share with you from a Galaxy Far, Far Away…reports are starting to surface that a Luke Skywalker solo movie could be a thing. Now this is ALL rumor so far but let take a look at the news that’s making the rounds.
So according to a report in We Got This Covered, there have been a TON of setbacks when it comes to future Star Wars-focused projects. This perception isn’t helped by the fact that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is getting a lot of flack for NOT having a cohesive plan when it comes to the future of the franchise. As a matter of fact, one of the biggest rumors to come out of the Star Wars universe as of late is that Kennedy may in fact be on the way out. With a change in leadership, what direction Disney decides to take Star Wars in could be anyone’s guess.
However, there are a couple of theories on what could be next. The first includes a reboot of the entire Sequel trilogy. According to Star Wars insiders, this could include using the Veil of the Force to introduce a time travelling element into the timeline. This idea is starting to gain traction with fans because it would leave room for George Lucas’ cut of The Rise of Skywalker. This would, according to the piece in We Got This Covered give Luke a more satisfying story arc overall whilst at the same time marking the official end of the trilogy.
That brings us to the second move being floated about. This one ALSO uses the Veil of the Force as the primary storytelling device with Palpatine killed after the events in Return of the Jedi with The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker becoming an alternate reality. This could lead to a Luke Skywalker-focused film. One insider said, “I’m told they are contemplating a new Luke Skywalker movie set 10 years after The Return of the Jedi. Set in The Mandalorian timeline.”
Then there’s this third theory that George Lucas may return to the fold to right the wrongs of the last three Star Wars films released by Disney which many Star Wars purists argue disregarded many of the main ideas and story points of the original films. Though this seems the least unlikely of the three scenarios, George Lucas, according to the We Got This Covered piece has expressed an interest in the past at being in the director’s chair for the final installments of the Star Wars arc.
What remains clear from all of the theories floated about above is that a direction forward for Star Wars seems unclear and uncertain. However with two Star Wars-themed lands located at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and a Star Wars-themed hotel currently in development at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that Disney will want to continue to invest in Star Wars films is all but as given.
