Disney Parks Salutes a Very Special Set of Superheroes
We couldn’t let Superhero Day come and go without first paying tribute to some real superheroes! Since COVID-19 first surfaced, the Disney community has really come together to support one another and to keep others safe, and healthy. The real superheroes this year aren’t from Marvel but rather they are the essential workers: doctors, nurses, hospital staff, first responders, delivery, grocery and culinary workers!
During this time, many nonprofit organizations continue to work tirelessly to provide support and resources to communities. Here’s a quick look at a few of those making a difference.

Second Harvest Food Bank
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida has been hard at work supporting local communities by distributing enough food for an incredible 5.5 million meals. To broaden their reach, they have deployed 50 mobile pantries to areas with a high need over six counties! This also helped school distributions giving them access to fresh produce. and allowing summer programs to start early.
Over on the West Coast, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, California has been preparing since February to support their community. They’ve increased their inventory by over 40% to meet the demand and added a weekly food box delivery which delivers meals to over 10,000 seniors along with after school meal sites. They also set up drive-thru distribution centers that serve over 4,500 households and they continue to service over 291 food distribution sites in the county.
USO Central Florida
The USO Central Florida (pictured top) has been looking after 2,500 National Guard members as the support the front lines of COVID-19. National Guard Members have moved to Florida to help in testing centers and hospitals. USO volunteers also work the Coast Guard in Port Canaveral to deliver care packages to military workers and their families.
Anaheim Family YMCA
The YMCA started the Grab and Go meal program from the day that California issued its stay at home orders. The YMCA has served 27,000 meals from 23 distribution locations and with the help of buses donated from the Anaheim Resort Area they have made deliveries to neighborhoods. The YMCA is also providing virtual tutoring and Homework Hotline.
To all of the Incredible Super Heroes in the Disney communities – we thank you!
