Princess Buttercup, Robin Wright, and Westley, Cary Elwes helped make the announcement on Twitter. It will drop on Disney+ on May 1st.
The story of The Princess Bride is presented as a bedtime story for a sick boy (Fred Savage). Something many parents have resurrected now that there is more time to read to their children. Perhaps a positive experience in a time of so many negatives.
Peter Falk plays the Grandfather. He starts telling the story of Westly, a farmhand, who must rescue his true love. Princess Buttercup has been taken by the evil Prince Humperdinck. But, will Westley save his princess and will she accept him when he does. They are from very different backgrounds. He does have a band of mates that help him including the late Andre the Giant as Fezzik.
The film, released in 1987, has become a cult classic. It is listed on the American Film Institutes’ 100 greatest love stories and was inducted into the National Film Registry as a culturally, historically or aesthetically significant film.
Even though at its surface The Princess Bride seems like a silly fantasy movie, it is in reality a witty script that acknowledges the intelligence of its audience. So watch here the Battle of the Wits:
Buttercup, Westley, Prince Humperdink and all the gang will be ready for viewing on May 1st. Just “As you Wish”.
