John Krasinski’s Online Talk Show Features Mary Poppins (and Some Other Surprise Guest Stars)
John Krasinski is keeping us all entertained with his online quarantine talk show. He has called it “Some Good News” which is something we all need right now. The purpose is to put a positive spin on everything happening in the world right now with COVID-19. Episode #1 aired a week ago and included an interview with Steve Carell.
Second Episode
But, the second installment, which aired today (April 6th) featured some very, special guest stars including one Mary Poppins played by Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt. Blunt played Poppins in the sequel to the 1964 original, Mary Poppins Returns.
Broadway Themed
The decidedly Broadway theme to Krasinski’s second show was for a very good reason. He wanted to surprise 9 year-old fan, Aubrey. Aubrey is a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda and since she couldn’t go see Hamilton on Broadway like she planned for her birthday she watched Mary Poppins Returns to see Miranda in action. Her reaction when Emily joins the conference is priceless.
A Big Surprise
However, Krasinski had a huge surprise for Aubrey. The surprise came when Emily Blunt (referring to Miranda in Mary Poppins Returns) said, “He’s not really a main part, more like a back-up dancer” and Miranda popped into the call. He brought with him Daveed Diggs, Okieriete Onaodowan, Phillipa Soo, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff and Javier Muñoz. They performed the opening number of the show. Here is the the full episode:
Positive Energy
If you need a boost of positive energy this is a good way to do it. There is absolutely no way you cannot smile after watching John Krasinski’s “Some Good News” with Mary Poppins as a guest star, and Lin-Manuel Miranda making a 9 year-old girls’ birthday with a Hamilton performance. As Krasinski says at the end of his show “no matter how dark it gets there is always good in the world.”
