Port Canaveral To Furlough Cruise-Related Employees
So many businesses are being impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Yesterday, we here at MickeyBlog shared the news that Walt Disney World will be furloughing all non-essential Disney theme park employees beginning on April 19th.
Today, Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal, the cruising terminal that a large majority of Disney Cruise Line’s sailings come and go from has also announced, according to a recent piece in the Orlando Sentinel, that they have also furloughed some employees for at least two months.
In a statement released from Port Canaveral, the cruise terminal said that it is furloughing employees that deal with the port’s cruise operations and recreation business segments whose job functions have been impacted by cruise cancellations at the terminal. A spokesperson for the terminal Steven Linden said that the port employes roughly 250 people and that 50 of these jobs have been furloughed.
This furlough is effective immediately and is expected to last until May 30 or upon the resumption of cruise operations. Port Canaveral said that all impacted employees have been notified and will remain employed throughout the furlough period.
