Al Michaels Will Not Join ESPN Broadcasting Team
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Times, ESPN had dreams of stealing Al Michaels away from NBC and pairing him with Peyton Manning for an NFL broadcasting dream team.
ESPN reportedly approached NBC with an offer for a trade package, but NBC declined.
Michaels is under contract with NBC until 2022. “It’s possible that ESPN could convince NBC to talk trade at some point before then, and Michaels may also choose to sign with ESPN if he becomes a “free agent” in two years and does not want to retire” (larrybrownsports.com). Michaels is currently 75 years old.
Even without Michaels, ESPN reportedly continues to pursue Manning. It’s unknown if Manning has any interest in broadcasting, but word on the street is he is being offered “an insane amount of money” by ESPN.
