UCLA Fellowship Given in Disney Imagineer’s Name
Marty Skylar had a long career with the Walt Disney Company as an Imagineer. During his 53 years of service, he helped develop the theme parks and the attractions at Walt Disney World, Toyko Disney and Disneyland Paris. One of his most famous attractions is the Enchanted Tiki Room at WDW Magic Kingdom.
Brian Kite, Interim Dean of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT) announced that the school has received a generous leadership gift from the Marty and Leah Sklar Family to create the Marty Sklar Entertainment Innovation Fellowship. (InParkMagazine.com) Skylar was a graduate of UCLA. The fellowships will provide three students with at least $10,000 each to participate in innovation projects with the school.
“This fellowship is an exciting and appropriate way to honor Marty Sklar, a pioneer in demonstrating how artistic creativity can drive engineering innovation,” said Jeff Burke, UCLA TFT alumnus, associate dean for technology and innovation. Marty Skylar passed away in 2017 and remains one of the most prolific and respected Imagineers.
