Are Paid FastPasses on the Horizon at Walt Disney World?
There have been rumors for years that Walt Disney World would begin offering paid FastPasses. How these FastPasses might work and/or be offered has always been up to some debate though. While it’s still unclear how these up-charged FastPasses might work, it is looking like they might be available for Guests in 2020.
Guests can actually already take advantage of paying for three additional FastPasses a day. However, there is a catch. To take advantage of this luxury, you have to be staying in a Club Level Room at one of the Deluxe Walt Disney World Resort Hotels or in a Club Level Room at the Gran Destino Tower in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. This option option cost each Guest on your reservation $50 extra a day and there is a three day minimum. This option also included reserved seating for select in-park entertainment options.
Guests can also take advantage of VIP Tours and “themed tours.” VIP Tours will allow you to use the FastPass entrance on most rides at the four parks and comes complete with your own VIP Tour Guide. This option ranges from $400 to $600 an hour with a seven hour minimum as well as a maximum of 10 Guests per tour. “Themed” tours are offered on select attractions at select parks and are going to be less expensive than the traditional VIP Tours. For instance, Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom can take advantage of the “Ultimate Disney Classics VIP Tour.” This tour allows Guests special access to select attractions including: Dumbo, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid. The cost of this tour is $249 per person and black out dates are applicable.
OrlandoWeekly.com is reporting that a popular Disney insider, “Martin,” has posted on the WDWMagic Forums a few different scenarios on how these up-charged FastPasses might work. He is under the belief that several package options will be offered. Attractions and experiences might show available for those with the paid FastPasses while not available for those using the complimentary FastPasses included with their tickets. It’s also possible that popular attractions might become available first for those using the paid option vs. those who are using the complimentary ones. Rumors also indicate that Guests might be able to select up to nine FastPasses a day in advance when purchased.
Details are still sketchy on this new paid FastPass option but one can imagine that they might be part of the new Disney Genie tool that was announced at the 2019 D23 Expo. This new tool is being build as an all-new way to help Guests plan their day in real time. The Disney Genie will integrate with the current My Disney Experience app as well as the Play Disney Parks app.
A timeline of when these paid FastPasses will roll out but “Martin” has stated the original timeline has been rolled back but Walt Disney World is still moving forward with their plans. The Disney Genie is scheduled to launch towards the end of this year. Make sure to keep it here with MickeyBlog.com for all the latest.
