VIDEO: Grand Floridian’s 21st Gingerbread House
If you were lucky enough to catch it this morning, we offered a live stream of the grand opening of the Grand Floridian’s 21st gingerbread house.
Each year as the holiday season begins gingerbread houses begin to pop up around the Walt Disney World Resort. This year marks the 21st year that the Grand Floridian has participated in this festive event.
The gingerbread house is located right in the lobby of the Main Building at the Grand Floridian. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place this morning and included the head chef and Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty).
Once the opening was underway, small billows of smoke were coming out of the chimney of the gingerbread house. We went around for a closer look at the house and (in true Disney fashion) not a single detail was overlooked.
The back of the Gingerbread house was opened and selling yummy snacks and holiday treats. Take a peek at the menu.
The Grand Floridian’s 21st Gingerbread House
This life-size gingerbread house is too good to eat. So no late-night strolls through the lobby to “nosh” on a shingle or two. However, at the back window of the house, guests are able to purchase a variety of holiday treats!
Upon taking a closer look at the house, you’ll find that there are 21 Hidden Mickey’s. One for each year that the gingerbread house has been created at the resort. Can you find them all?
Construction
The kitchen has been busy preparing for this event. In fact, to give you an idea of just how much went into creating the Grand Floridian’s 21st gingerbread house, we’ll give you a look at the ingredients.
- 1050 lbs of Honey
- 140 pints of Egg Whites
- 600 lbs of Powdered Sugar
- 700 lbs of Chocolate
- 800 lbs of Flour
- 35 lbs of Spices
- Tons of Creativity, Disney Magic, and Pixie Dust
