Bringing CBD Oill Into Walt Disney World Theme Park Leads to Arrest of Great Grandmother
One of the current health trends catching on like wildfire is the use of CBD oil. News channels are buzzing about it. Celebrities are extolling its virtues. But if there’s one place that this latest health and wellness trend is not welcome it’s at Walt Disney World’s theme parks as one visitor this week found out!
This week a 69-year-old woman visited Walt Disney World with CBD oil in her purse which she uses for arthritis. The item was discovered by security at one of Disney’s theme park checkpoints and the great-grandmother was arrested by the Orange County Police Department. She spent 12 hours in jail before being released on $2,000 bond.
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. The woman detained for bringing it into the parks was Jordan Buckhalter from North Carolina who began using the oil based on her doctor’s recommendation. She even showed up at the theme park with a doctors note in her purse. However, there was one small problem. Though CBD Oil is legal in many states throughout the US it is NOT legal in the state of Florida unless the user as a prescription.
With this in mind, it’s important that all visitors to Walt Disney World note that CBD oil is not on the list of permissible items allowed into the theme parks and could cause difficulty when going through resort and theme park security checkpoints. If you rely on the product do try to get an official prescription before bringing it with you on your Disney vacation.
So what happened to Ms. Buckhalter? The Orange County Sheriff Department did release a statement saying that officers were following necessary procedures given that this is an illegal substance but that all charges against the 69-year-old were eventually dropped.
