Lin Manuel Miranda’s Future with Disney is Amazing
On the heels of Lin Manuel Miranda’s amazing performance in Disney’s smash hit Mary Poppins Returns, Playbill.com has put together an impressive list of projects involving Miranda that are currently in the works. While this awe-inspiring list is comprehensive, we’ll focus specifically on the Disney-related projects he’s working on. Take a look!
Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins Returns hit theaters on December 19 and instantly had fans in a frenzy. Indiewire.com describes Miranda as playing, “Jack the lamplighter, the grown-up apprentice of Bert the chimney sweep (Dick Van Dyke), singing a new music-hall patter number in the style of “Jolly Holiday,” which Van Dyke rattled through long before anyone knew how to rap. ”
“These songs are cousins with hip hop,” Miranda explained to Indiewire.com reporter Anne Thomspon. Miranda has been nominated for a Golden Globe award as Best Actor for his role as Jack.
The Little Mermaid
On July 17, 2017, Entertainment Weekly posted on their site, “Veteran Disney composer Alan Menken officially confirmed at D23 Expo that Miranda will be collaborating with him on new music for the film, which is to re-imagine the studio’s 1989 animated classic. “For the live-action Little Mermaid, I’m writing additional songs with lyrics by Hamilton and Moana songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda,” he said.”

As reported back in August 23, 2018 on Cheatsheet.com, Miranda has a little history writing songs for previous Disney movies, “As Menkin mentioned, this is not Miranda’s first time working with Disney, as he also wrote songs for Moana. Additionally, Miranda will star in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns this Christmas, and he even contributed a song to the scene at Maz’s castle in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Clearly, Miranda has a great relationship with the Mouse.”

Duck Tails
According to Playbill.com, “Disney’s animated comedy-adventure returns with new adventures of the wealthy Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews. Miranda voices a scientist duck named Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, also known as Gizmoduck. Miranda’s first episode premiered May 11, 2018. We will see if Miranda and his character return for additional episodes.”

According to Billboard.com, “Says Miranda about his role in DuckTales: “I’m really excited that a new generation of kids will be growing up with DuckTales. As a huge fan of the original series, I love that I can share this new version with my sons.”
His Ducktales role debuted on May 11, 2018 and it is yet to be known whether his character will resurface in future episodes. You can take a look at his character here!
