‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Brings in $4.8 Million on Opening Day
It’s shaping up to be a jolly holiday weekend for Disney’s latest cinematic release ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’ According to a recent piece in Variety, the film starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda earned a strong $4.8 million across 3,900 theatres on its first day of release (December 19th.)
Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” is an all-new original musical and serves as the sequel to the original”Mary Poppins” film which made its debut 54 years ago. In the film, Mary is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives after they suffer a personal loss. Emily Blunt takes on the title role as a practically-perfect nanny with magical skills and the ability to turn any task into an unforgettable adventure. Lin-Manuel Miranda plays Jack, a happy-go-lucky street lamplighter who brings a bit of light back into the lives of the Banks siblings.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall who is known from bringing musicals to life on the big screen. His previous projects include “Chicago ” and “Into the Woods.” It also features new music from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
