Celebrate Beauty with These PRINTcesses!

In celebration of February’s Black History Month a group of women are changing the way we see the traditional Disney Princesses. AfricanPRINTcess member Audrey Lee Young has been fascinated with Disney since a young girl. But, according to an interview with PopSugar.com’s Karenna Meredith, that fascination turned into a DisneyBounding obsession.
Fourteen women wear fourteen outfits representing fourteen different Disney Princesses in a new, beautiful light. On February 8th, the group made their debut at DisneyLand. “At one point we finally had to leave Main Street because there were a lot of people staring and pointing as photos were being taken,” Audrey said. “All day guests were commenting on how beautiful and majestic we looked.” (PopSugar)
From Ariel to Snow White to Cinderella, these African princesses embody the hopes, dreams, adventures and beauty of the Disney Princesses. “For all the little girls out there who still don’t see the representation they deserve or who are still told that their black/brown skin and kinky hair are undesirable, you are beautiful princesses. The standard of beauty is YOU! You can be a mermaid, you can be a boss lady, you can be a warrior, you can be an adventurer,” Audrey said. “Dream big and dream bold.” (PopSugar)
The group met and collaborated through the DisneyBounding community and Instagram. Photographer Madeline Barr came on board to take the photographs and the group’s message came to life. “Everyone is a princess, everyone is beautiful and everyone can dream.”
