‘Toy Story’ Toys Overview
With the opening of Toy Story Land drawing nearer and nearer as we count down to summer, Andy’s band of loveable toys are taking back the spotlight some 23 years after the film’s original release. I say ‘back’ in the spotlight, but the fact of the matter is- they never really left. Over the past 20 years, toys, games, and apparel featuring Toy Story branding have been featured staples in storefronts, and kids and adults alike have demanded sequels that garnered as much popularity as the original.
I’m just as excited as any 6 year old for the opening of Toy Story Land this summer, and if you know me, it’d come as no surprise that I’ve been known to dust off my collection of Toy Story toys to commemorate the event! I’ve been a toy collector since I knew what toy collecting meant, and I’ve held onto almost all of my Toy Story toys since I was a child! Let’s break down the current Toy Story offerings so you can best decide which you want to add to your collection before the summer hits!
To Infinity, and Beyond!
Woody put it best: he’s a cool toy. He’s a colorful, poseable, talking, hysterical character, and hands down my favorite of all. That’s right, I’m talking Buzz Lightyear! There are lots of Buzz Lightyear action figures out there to choose from, but if your Toy Story fan dreams of blasting off to the Gamma Quadrant with Star Command, the best option is the Buzz Lightyear talking action figure from Shopdisney.com.
This one comes with a personal recommendation, as I own this figure myself! He stands at about a foot tall and is the exact replica of the toy Andy receives in the film. He even comes in a spaceship box! He says over 30 original phrases from the film, has a retractable helmet that does that ‘swoosh’ thing, can pop his light-up wings from his jet pack, and is complete with that infamous karate chop action! The figures is made of durable plastic and can withstand some rough play. The joints are all poseable, making him a true action figure.
Oooooo, The Claw
To get your hands on these little guys, you’ll have to head to the parks. The Bucket ‘o Little Green Men are the perfect carry-along toy featuring the Pizza Planet aliens of Toy Story. They are a parks exclusive product and can be found in many places around Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The bucket is loaded with 25 of the little green space creatures as well as a plastic model of their rocket ship.
The carry bag the aliens are packaged in is small, and made of lightweight, durable plastic. Equipped with a handle for carrying, this piece of Toy Story merchandise is perfect for your child (or a full grown adult…like me) to take along on road trips, to restaurants, and on plane rides. Unzip for play, and pack it all up when it’s time to go, and you’ve got a great toy that will occupy its own for hours on end.
Andy’s Toybox
I’m (more than) a bit obsessed with the Disney Infinity inspired Toybox action figures line that launched late last year. Unlike the Bucket ‘o Little Green Men, these can’t be found in the parks. They are a Disney Store Exclusive, and you’ll have to go either to a store in person or online to shopdisney.com to get them. I own Buzz and Woody from the Toybox series, and I really could not give them enough praise.
They are extremely poseable and articulate- seemingly every joint can be manipulated to shape the figures into whatever positions your playtime adventure requires. Woody comes equipped with a boot and a removable hat, and although Buzz doesn’t have an accessory, his wings can be folded into his jet pack for when he’s completing his earthly duties. Toybox also offers a Jessie figure complete with a a lasso! The figures stand about 5” and are durable enough for rough play, but elegantly detailed enough to place on a collector’s shelf.
Collect Them All
If you simply must have all of Andy’s toys in your playbox, I really can’t blame you! You can opt for the Toy Story Figure Playset from shopdisney.com if you’re on a budget, but if you really want to immerse yourself into the world of the film, you’ve got to go for the Toy Story Deluxe Action Figure Gift Set. The set includes ten fully poseable figures like Woody, Jessie, Rex, Bullseye, and Buzz, to name a few. These are available in store and online on shopdisney.com. I know a few friends who own this set, and after seeing how well done the figures are, it’s definitely going to be my next toy purchase! So, which of these toys will you pick up ahead of the opening of Toy Story Land? Let me know in the comments below!

Aw. This makes me smile. Toy Story has always been one of my most favorites! I have a few of the characters, but wouldn’t mind finding some of the others. So many neat toys to choose from. Woody has always been a beloved character of mine. 🙂
So exciting!! Love Woody too!
