Ultimate Review of Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie
Located in a secluded area of Epcot’s France Pavilion is a little French bakery that delivers some of the best foods I have ever eaten in Disney World and I’m not exaggerating. The shop’s name is Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie which roughly translated means The Halls of Bread and Pastries…I mean come on, who wouldn’t like that kind of place?
The bakery opens at 9:00 AM which means it’s open before the rest of the World Showcase and closes at 9pm. It’s the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a snack! Before we dive into the food options let’s learn a little about the shop.
Background
When the France pavilion opened in 1982 there was a bakery there named Boulangerie-Patisserie. It was small but popular, so it was closed down and moved to a new location…the next building over. The new and improved bakery was opened in 2013 and was renamed Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie.
The new shop was moved into its current location and the gelato shop, Les Glaces (which is also delicious), took over the original building. The new name came from a famous fresh food market that was located in the heart of Paris. It however, was demolished in 1971. With the larger location and expanded menu Les Halles has gained many fans and is one of the more popular quick service locations in Epcot.
Atmosphere
When you enter the France pavilion there is a beautiful water fountain with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
If you make your way past the fountain and take a left, you’ll find yourself transported to a small village in France . If you follow the cobble stone street to its end, you’ll find yourself at the doorstep to Les Halles.
You can enter one of three archways and inside you’ll find Les Halles and a French souvenir shop.
In the front of the store you’ll find seating for Les Halles, which is made to look like you are sitting outside. Then directly behind that you’ll see a sign that says ‘Boulangerie-Patisserie and that is where you’ll find their magnificent food!
Les Halles Food!
The serving area is roped off to make room for a line to form. The glass displays that hold the food are set up in a U-shape and when you reach the front of the line a cast member will meet you there. Guests alternate by going right or left (don’t worry the same options are on both side.) to choose their food.
A cast member will follow you with a tray and all you must do is say or point if your French is rusty…or nonexistent, what you want. You start with the savory items and end with desserts…and yes you can definitely eat desserts for breakfast. Once you are done choosing your food you can choose from a large variety of beverages, including mimosas, pay and then enjoy!
Like I said before the food is delicious here. They serve a variety of bread items, which is where your savory items come in, such as sandwiches, quiches, baguettes, salads, and much more. They also serve a variety of pastries. Their pastries are not only delicious, but also beautiful. Every single dessert they carry is like a mini piece of art. They carry tarts, macarons, cakes, mousses, and sweet breads. The selection is large and can be hard to choose so here are my favorite things to eat from Les Halles:
Macaron
One of the reasons I’m always drawn to macarons is because of the amazing colors they come in. This particular macaron is neon pink and it isn’t a traditional macaron. Instead of a thin layer of filling in the center this one has fresh raspberries and a lime cream! Delicious! Having the fresh fruit combined with the sweet macaron is a heavenly concoction…plus I’m a sucker for lime anything.
Fraises/Strawberry Tart
Fraises, which means strawberries, is a tart filled with vanilla cream and topped with glazed strawberries. This is one of the bakeries prettiest snacks, and quite delicious. The crust is flaky, and the sweet cream and tart strawberries make a perfect combination that is akin to strawberry shortcake. My Mom’s favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake, and this is her go to item.
Chocolat/Caramel and Chocolate Tart
This chocolate tart has a thick, flaky crust with a bitter caramel filling which is then topped with a sweet chocolate mousse. If that’s not enough it is then topped with two circular pieces of solid chocolate making this snack not only taste divine, but also beautiful to look at.
Napoleon
The Napoleon is a classic French dessert and I find that people either hate it or love it. The dessert consists of layers of puff pastry and vanilla pudding. The top is also covered in a thin decorative icing. I think this dessert is good, but I will warn you it is messy to eat. There is really no clean or pretty way to eat it.
Mousse au Chocolat/Chocolate Mousse
This cup of goodness is a wonderful treat. It is chocolate mousse that is topped with candy pearls. The mousse is incredibly smooth and light and a perfect size to share with someone…or eat yourself!
Brioche Chocolat/Chocolate Chip Brioche
This sweet bread is simply a brioche roll with mixed in chocolate chips. Even though it’s simple it is still delicious. The bread is soft and buttery and there is a perfect amount of chocolate chips spread throughout the bread.
Roule Lard et Fromage/Bacon and Cheese Roll
This is by far one of the best things I’ve ever eaten at Walt Disney World. Usually I eat more than one when I go because they are that good. It consists of bread rolled up with cheese and bacon. Who doesn’t love bacon…I mean really. The bread is soft with a chewy crust and each layer has a generous amount of cheese and bacon, so each bite is just as delicious as the last.
Croque Monsieur
The croque monsieur is a classic French item and is basically a toasted ham and cheese sandwich that is topped with a bechamel sauce. Bechamel consists of a classic roux with milk added to it to make a sauce. The sandwich is delicious, and I would suggest getting it toasted!
This quick service has a multitude of amazing options and you should definitely visit it on your next Disney Vacation.
