Disney Welcomes New Baby Mandril
Nothing melts the heart quite like a new arrival at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. That’s why we here at MickeyBlog are happy to announce that a new baby mandril was welcomed to the world. The mandril infant was born on July 25th to (first-time) father Linus and mother Scarlett.
Let’s take a look at some recent footage with the adorable baby!
According to reports coming in from Disney mom and baby are doing well and are currently having lots of bonding time. Because the bond is so close and mom is feeling very territorial, Disney’s Animal Care Experts have yet to determine whether baby is a bow or a girl but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear!
If you’ll be visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the weeks ahead you should be on the lookout for baby. We hear that Scarlett has been showing off her new arrival to guests on Kilimanjaro Safari
Though this baby is so tiny just now, Dr. Mark at Disney’s Animal Kingdom tells us that mandrills are actually the largest species of monkey in the world. They’re typically found in African rainforests along the equator. However, their habitat is quickly disappearing because of deforestation and poaching. Welcoming baby mandril is just one example of how Disney’s dedicated team of experts works with Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) on species survival plans to ensure responsible breeding of endangered species. These efforts ensure a healthy and genetically diverse population of animals for years to come.
If you want to know more about the incredible and diverse creatures that call the Animal Kingdom home then also be sure to check out an upcoming Disney+ series “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” This awesome new offering will provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at Disney’s team of animal care experts and the animals they care fore. The show is coming out this Fall and may even feature some of the mandrills!
The “Magic Of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” series comes to you from National Geographic and promises to provide viewers with a one-of-a-kind look into the daily operation of Disney’s animal care and veterinary facilities at Animal Kingdom along with The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT. Stay tuned for more about “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” coming to Disney+ this fall! Also be sure to follow along with @drmarkatdisney!
