Celebrate National Vodka Day in Disney Style
If vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort weren’t reason enough for indulging in a few extra cocktails than during an average week, perhaps this will change your mind: October 4th is National Vodka Day! I don’t need to tell you that vodka is the best liquor to use when you don’t want your drink to taste like hard liquor- which also makes vodka a dangerously delicious choice…because it sneaks up on you!
Walt Disney World Resort throws down some of the best cocktails featuring practically every liquor under the sun, and I’ve sipped my way to the bottom of enough glasses to know which are worthy of writing home about (umm, no pun intended). Like I said, if you’re using vacation as a reason to enjoy a cocktail a day, you’re doing it right. And if you’re using National Vodka Day to indulge in a second drink, you’re reading the right article!
Blueberry Lemonade
I’m praying the weather up north doesn’t turn cold for a few more weeks (or ideally, never), and while I’m riding out what’s left of the sunny days up here, my thoughts are on the hot and sunny days in the current Central Florida forecast. Yep, it’s still as hot as mid-summer at Walt Disney World, and the Blueberry Lemonade featuring Stoli blueberry and Deep Eddy Lemonade vodkas mesh to make the most refreshing drink I’ve ever tasted!
The homemade lemonade from The Boathouse only helps to bring out the fruity flavors of the vodka. Trust me, the presentation in a tall logo glass with floating, fresh-picked berries looks gorgeous, and the sweet drink goes down so smoothly that it’s smart to order a second before you even take your first sip!
St. Augustine
Unless you’re sitting at a table service restaurant with a drinks menu, you won’t find any alcoholic beverages inside Magic Kingdom Park gates, which makes celebrating National Vodka Day pretty tough if you’re visiting the Park on October 4th! Don’t worry though, at Walt Disney World, a refreshing vodka-based drink is never more than a stone’s throw away- or in this case, a quick monorail or boat ride to The Grand Floridian!
At the pool bar is where you’ll find the vodka-based St. Augustine. The blue/green drink is as refreshing as it looks, and features not one but two types of vodka mixed with blue curacao, pineapple, and orange juice! You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more refreshing-looking poolside beverage, and it’s my favorite grab-and-go cocktail to enjoy while taking a mid-afternoon break from the Magic Kingdom crowds at The Grand Floridian!
Dad’s Electric Lemonade
How do Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom differ? It’s simple, because you can order a drink practically anywhere at Hollywood Studios, of course! I had a tough time narrowing down my top 3 favorite vodka drinks for this article (hey, you have to sample them all before you can recommend them, right?) and after a weekend of deliberating, I’ve decided on one that I’m confident will have mass crowd appeal.
Dad’s Electric Lemonade from 50’s Prime Time Cafe is a fantastic pre-dinner cocktail to sip on while you wait for your table on National Vodka Day. Actually, you don’t have to dine at Prime Time to enjoy this drink- last time I visited I popped into the attached Tune-In Lounge for my Electric Lemonade fix, and I didn’t even need a reservation! Don’t be fooled by the blue hue, this bad boy is NOT for kids and packs a pretty serious punch- and that’s all thanks to the vodka!
California Sunset
Since the day it opened, Baseline Tap House at Hollywood Studios quickly became a personal oasis. Adjacent to Star Tours just next to the Sci Fi, Baseline Tap House’s off-the-beaten-path location is my favorite place to take a break from the crowds when the lines get long and the afternoon gets hot.
I know that my little slice of quiet paradise is in jeopardy and will become overrun with guests on their way to and from Galaxy’s Edge in a little over a year’s time, and my advice is to head there now while there is still peace to be had! On National Vodka Day, even the beer lovers should reconsider their order before opting for one of the many many beers on top, because the one and only drink on your radar should be the California Sunset!
Featuring Absolut Berry Açaí Vodka and Southern Comfort, the one-two punch from the liquors is nicely offset with sweet-and-sour, orange juice, and a tasty and unexpected pomegranate topper that adds a tart, fresh finish to each sip.
