Werner Herzog On Baby Yoda: “So Wonderful….”
We’ve heard that well-known filmmaker Werner Herzog had a pretty amazing time on the set of The Mandalorian.
However, Herzog put an exclamation point at the end of that experience.
Herzog, who played “The Client”, really, really loved “The Child”:

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter’s Brian Davids, Herzog said:
“It’s wonderfully created and sculpted, and a mechanical device that is a massive achievement for cinema. You can see it with your eyes, and you can touch it… That’s why I said, ‘Don’t try to have a fallback, a plan B, and shoot it now in a digital remake of what you already have in the can. It’s so wonderful. You cannot outdo it. Don’t be cowards. You are trailblazers.’”

We agree. But we also agree regarding Herzog’s take on The Mandalorian overall.
Davids added:
“What The Mandalorian is doing with its technology, it replaces what has been very difficult for actors, cameras and for everything: the green screens,” Herzog shares. “But here, with these round horizons, as an actor, you know where you are, and the camera knows and sees the foreign planet on which you are moving. This is a wonderful achievement. It’s cinema where it always has been and where it should be back.”
And of the overall impact of Baby Yoda, Herzog explained he’s not on the internet or social media, so the phenomenon “took [him] by surprise.”
“But what’s wrong with saying something good about Baby Yoda?” he asked.
Nothing. Nothing at all, Werner.
Coming Soon: The Mandalorian – Season Two
We’re all very excited about the upcoming season of Bab… er, The Mandalorian:
“We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lockdown,” said Favreau recently. “So, we’ll be available — as planned — in October on Disney+.
“And [we’re] hopefully building on what people love about the first season,” he said.
