The Song
“Go the Distance” is from the motion picture Hercules. The song lyrics are very relevant right now. Here is an excerpt:
I will find my way if I can be strong
I know every mile would be worth my while
When I go the distance, I’ll be right where I belong
Though that road may wander, it will lead me to you
And a thousand years would be worth the wait
It might take a lifetime but somehow I’ll see it through (Disney’s Hercules)
The Performers
Disney’s Broadway performers came together from several different shows in order to perform this singular song on Zoom. Performers included:
Heather Headley (The Lion King), Ciara Renee (Frozen), Jelani Alladin (Frozen and Hercules), L. Steven Taylor (The Lion King), Adrienne Walker (The Lion King), McKenzie Kurtz (Frozen), Michael James Scott (Aladdin), Ryan McCartan (Frozen), and James Monroe Inglehart (Aladdin).
You can see the full performance from Good Morning America here.
The Cause
The song was not just performed as a pick-me-up (although it definitely was) it was also to promote a charitable cause. Disney’s Broadway is going to air their 25th anniversary concert on April 13th. The concert was previously recorded but Ryan McCartan, who plays Hans in Disney’s Broadway production of Frozen, will host and interview several of the performers.
The concert will double as a fundraiser for the COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund. His interview with Good Morning America is directly after the performance. So, tune in on April 13th for Disney Broadway and consider helping out with the COVID-19 Emergency Fund.
