Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Coco Churro
Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday! I just completed an INCREDIBLE visit to Disneyland Resort to check out the new Incredicoaster, Pixar Pier, and all of the fun festivities surrounding Pixar Fest – where we can celebrate Friendship and beyond with our favorite Pixar characters! Of course, when it comes to Disney Travel spots, I like to “eat my way” through the theme parks, sampling the best treats to share with YOU! So, I spent much of my visit trying ALL of the amazing Tasty Treats available at Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park. Calories don’t count at Disneyland, right?
I look forward to sharing all of my favorites with you over the next few weeks, but today … we are going to feature a limited time only treat that will soon leave the parks with the end of Pixar Fest on September 3rd! It’s Tasty Treat Tuesday, and I have a treat that will have you booking your next trip to Disneyland just to try it – The Coco Churro!
What is it?
A chocolate churro topped with chocolate powder, vanilla bean, and salted cinnamon sugar. Served with Mexican chocolate dipping sauce, it can be found at the Frontierland Churro Cart in Disneyland. This is most certainly my pick for chocolate fans!
Why try it?
First, I have to say that I was truly surprise by how good this churro is. When I originally noted this Tasty Treat for Pixar Fest, it was first on my list to try. I LOVE chocolate, cinnamon and anything fried. So, the Coco Churro was a “no brainer” pick. Just like any Disneyland churro, it is served piping hot with a soft doughy center and slightly crisp and crunchy exterior. The chocolate dough intensifies the flavor of the churro dough and adds depth to the treat.
Typically, a traditional churro is dipped in cinnamon and sugar; however the Coco Churro takes it up a notch with a touch of salt, vanilla and more cocoa powder. You know how I love salty/sweet combination treats and this one did not disappoint. Honestly, the Coco Churro can easily be enjoyed without the dipping sauce. The flavors are spot on and delicious on its own. But that Mexican Chocolate dipping sauce … oh man. Hot, melted chocolate mixed with cream is infused with a variety of spices – some aromatic and some spicy. Upon first bite, the velvet chocolate melts into the warm sugary fried dough and creates a decadent rich bite of sweet, cream, chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar. Then, a slow burn from the chilies brightens the palette with a kick of heat that is both surprising and enticing. For most treats at Disney, spicy is rare. But the Coco Churro has enough kick to honor the beauty of Mexican Chocolate and appeal to those who like a little fire in their food. However, it is so well balanced, that even my daughter who refuses to eat anything spicy gave it a thumbs up!
Where can I find it?
The Coco Churro can be found at the Churro Cart located in Frontierland in Disneyland Park. The Frontierland Churro Cart is situated across from the entrance to the Mark Twain Riverboat and just adjacent to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The cart is appropriately themed to look like a chuck wagon, ready for an adventure on the frontier. Due to it’s dark brown wooden exterior, the cart can be a bit tricky to find, but the hunt is worth it! The Coco Churro is uniquely elevated over the traditional cinnamon and sugar version. While the traditional Disneyland churros are here to stay, the Coco Churro is a specialty treat ONLY for Pixar Fest. So as Ernesto De La Cruz would say “Seize your moment” because this treat will not be around for much longer! Pixar Fest ends on September 3rd. And just like all of the other festivities at this event themed around friendship, I will be very sad to see this Tasty Treat leave the parks in a mere month!
