Kelly Campbell To Take The Reigns At Hulu
This will end up being the lesser of two big shakeup stories a the Walt Disney Company on February 25.
Presumably, that’s fine with Kelly Campbell – she’ll soon take over the lead at Disney’s Hulu streaming service.
Kelly Campbell To Run Hulu
Natalie Jarvey of The Hollywood Reporter posted:
Disney has promoted Hulu chief marketing officer Kelly Campbell to run the streaming service.
Campbell will become president of Hulu and will lead the streamer’s on-demand and live streaming businesses as the company is further integrated into parent Disney’s direct-to-consumer group. She comes to the role following the January announcement that Hulu CEO Randy Freer would step down after a little more than two years in the post.
In her new role, Campbell will work with Disney’s film and TV studios on original programming for Hulu. She will report to Disney direct-to-consumer and international chairman Kevin Mayer.
Campbell, who joined Hulu in 2017 after a stint at Google, is called “an immensely talented leader who has been a driving force in defining Hulu’s brand vision and strategy” by Disney Direct-to-Consumer and International Chairman Kevin Mayer.
In a statement, Campbell said of the transition, “The Hulu team is among the brightest, most technologically and creatively audacious in the industry, and I know we are going to do great things as part of the pioneering and equally bold team Kevin has built at DTCI.”
What’s Next For Hulu
How the change will affect Hulu was broken down by Variety.
Elaine Low wrote for Variety.com:
Changes have been afoot at Hulu internally, now that the streaming service is now fully under Disney’s operational control. Disney TV Studios’ Dana Walden now oversees Hulu’s scripted originals, while FX chief John Landgraf is responsible for the FX on Hulu hub, which launches on Monday. Campbell will manage Hulu’s suite of on-demand and live-streaming businesses and will work closely with Disney’s TV and film studios on Hulu’s original content, and with other direct-to-consumer team leaders on integration, according to the company.
Certainly, Bob Iger’s shift will cause more fallout from around The Walt Disney Companies. Keep it here on MickeyBlog.com.
