‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ Delivers Strong Ratings For Disney+
The latest chapter in the Descendants story arrived on July 12, when Descendants: The Rise of Red debuted on Disney+.
The fourth installment in the popular franchise stars Kylie Cantrall as Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts and princess of the Kingdom of Wonderland.
“When her mother, the tyrannical Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), incites a coup against Auradon, Red must join forces with Chloe (Cinderella and King Charming’s daughter played by Malia Baker) to travel back in time and undo the traumatic event that set the queen down her villainous path,” the film’s synopsis reads.
A Record-Breaking Debut
Ahead of Decendants: the Rise of Red’s debut, it was clear anticipation for the film was high. The trailer for the movie racked up 86 million views in 10 days, which was a record for Disney Branded Television.
The film managed to keep the momentum going with a strong debut on Disney+. The Rise of Red delivered 6.7 million views in its first three days streaming, the strongest debut ever for a Disney Channel Original Movie on Disney+.
Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime. Noteably, Descendants 3 drew over 8 million viewers when it premiered on the Disney Channel in 2019.
Social Media Was Abuzz
According to Disney, the #Descendants hashtag lit up social media, delivering 95 million views in the United States and over 9 billion views globally on TikTok. According to WaveMatrix, the Descendants film was among the top 10 most-mentioned film series on social media platform.
Next, Descendants: The Rise of Red will air on Disney Channel for a special encore presentation on Friday, August 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
