Disneyland Honors 1985 Theme Park Ticket
In August 1985, Scott King visited Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for its 30th anniversary.
As part of the celebration, the theme park gave away free tickets to every 30th person, and King was one of them.
King held on to that winning ticket for almost 40 years until recently, when he shared it with his daughter, and they received a fun surprise!
The Gift of a Lifetime
“I forgot all about it. I really didn’t pay much attention to it over the years,” King said. Instead of using the ticket, he placed it in a scrapbook and forgot about it until recently.
King remembers, “When I got there, they awarded me with a ticket and an ‘I am a winner’ badge, and I said, ‘What about the Cadillac?’ and they laughed and said, ‘Not today, buddy.'”
“My daughter decided that she wanted to go to Disneyland with her boyfriend,” he said. “She was telling me about how expensive it was now and everything, and I said, ‘You know, I have a ticket. Let me see if I can grab it.'”
The Golden Ticket
Almost four decades later, the golden ticket was still in the scrapbook of King’s garage.
He wondered if the theme park would honor the ticket, especially given the difference in price. In 1985, a Disneyland ticket was just $16.50, and today, the price starts at around $100.
Disneyland confirmed the ticket’s validity and honored the ticket. “I really couldn’t sleep that much because I have not been to Disneyland since I was six. So, it’s been over 12 years now,” the excited teenager shared
Almost 39 years later, that winning ticket provided an amazing memory for King and his daughter.
