Creations Shop Final Touches Placed Before Opening

The EPCOT’s flagship merchandise spot, Creations Shop, finally opens tomorrow. Today, cast members and construction workers placed the finishing touches on the mid-century modern signage out front. 

 

 

Today’s work focused on the lighting of the grand sign’s first letter, “C,” in World Bold font, the selected type according to imagineer Zach Riddley. The same font is used throughout the EPCOT redesign, including the EPCOT logo itself.

The marquee is one of five that will hang around the storefront, according Riddley’s Instagram post last week. The post celebrated the hanging of the enormous signage as well as the completion of the porticos. 

“Our design team wanted these portals to fully integrate into the architecture, creating a seamless composition that sweeps from the façade to the ground in one continuous motion, with fully embedded lighting and a signature yellow color,” Riddley commented in the post. 

 

 

 

The incredible transformation taking place at EPCOT brings the theme park back to its roots of inspiring the thinkers of today and tomorrow. Creations Shop opening tomorrow is the first in many new additions to the theme park, including Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure that opens to all guests on October 1st. 

 

The location also accentuates the new “bold, sleek design … [and] an open, bright, welcoming enviornment with huge glass walls that allow sunlight to pour in and make you feel like you’re in touch with nature even while indoors,” according to a Disney Parks Blog post. “We are using color, materials and light in new ways with some unique EPCOT touches that conenct back to thips park’s storied past while looking to the future.” 

Cast members will work through the night tonight to stock the shelves with popular merchandise at EPCOT, including that for the 50th anniversary celebration and the International Food and Wine Festival.
