Disneyland Cast Members Approve New Contract, Ending Months of Labor Unrest
Disneyland Resort Cast Members have voted to ratify a new three-year contract, ending months of labor unrest and avoiding a potential work stoppage.
The new labor contract was approved by the nearly 14,000 Cast Members who are members of a coalition of unions that collectively called themselves Disney Workers Rising. The group represented Cast Members at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and Disneyland Resort’s hotels.

The unions were pushing for increased wages, changes to Disneyland’s attendance policy, improved safety, and raises based on tenure.
The Two Sides Reached a Deal Last Week
Disney and the unions had been negotiating a new contract since April 24 but were unable to come to an agreement until last week.

“For months hard-working cast members have stood together at the bargaining table and in the parks to ensure Disney recognized what they bring to the theme park experience, and these contracts are a concrete and direct result of this tireless work,” the Disney Workers Rising Bargaining Committee said in a statement.
Pay Increase and More Protections
According to the unions, the new deal includes “historic raises and policies and protections that reflect their role as magic makers in the Disney parks.”

In addition to the wage increase, the new three-year contract also includes increased pay for long-tenured Cast Members, improvements to the attendance policy and sick leave, and other perks.
For their part, Disney said they were happy that Cast Members approved the new contract.
