‘The Acolyte’ Delivers the Biggest Disney+ Premiere of 2024
Disney+ may have another Star Wars hit on their hands as The Acolyte posted the streamer’s biggest series premiere of 2024.
According to Disney, the new series managed to bring 4.8 million views on its first day of availability, which topped every other Disney+ release this year. While Disney is often inconsistent in reporting streaming viewership numbers, the inference seems to be that the new Star Wars series bested the premiere of both X-Men ’97 and Marvel Studio’s Echo.
How The Acolyte stacks up to its Star Wars peers, however, remains unclear. The previous Star Wars release, Ahsoka, managed to bring in 14 million views in its first five days.
If you were to simply divide the total viewership during that span by five, that would average out to roughly 2.8 million viewers per day. That methodology would likely be unhelpful, however, as streaming series’ tend to spike in viewership on the day of their debut before trickling off.
So Far So Good?
Things appear to be going well for The Acolyte, which has been well-received by critics.
The series follows “an investigation into a shocking crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems,” according to the official synopsis.
The Acolyte is streaming now on Disney+.
