Former president of Walt Disney Imagineering, Bob Weis, has been tapped as the latest Executive in Residence of The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Weis boats more than 30 years in leadership, design, and development, helping to bring some of Disney’s most iconic parks to life. Among the over 200 major creative projects he led were the Shanghai Disney Resort and the Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios).

A Storied Disney Career
Weis originally joined WED Enterprises in 1980, just as Disney was ramping up its Tokyo Disneyland and EPCOT Center projects. Given his choice, Weis decided to work on the Tokyo project.
When Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, Weis began working on the creation of the Disney-MGM Studios. He was part of the team that realized that the “entertainment pavilion” originally intended for EPCOT Center had bigger possibilities.

During his storied career, Weis was instrumental in the creation of Tokyo Disneyland, Disney-MGM Studios, the second version of Disney California Adventure, and Shanghai Disneyland. By the time of his last major project, he was president of Imagineering.
Weis’ New Role
“Bob Weis is a luminary who transcends his career in themed experiences and the built environment,” said SCAD Chief Academic Officer Jason Fox.

“We are honored to bring Bob to SCAD to engage in futureproofing our academic programs and to prepare students for their creative professions. Bob has been a friend of SCAD for many years, and this new chapter amplifies SCAD’s commitment to preparing the next generation of dreamers and makers.”
In his new role, Weis will travel to all three SCAD locations in Atlanta, Savannah, and Lacoste, France. He will be visiting classes, critiquing student work, delivering workshops and lectures, and mentoring students.
